The first FIBS shirt
(sold out years ago)

alef: There has been overwhelming support for SlickWill's beige design, we might not even need a run off vote. Fundamentally it has everything: just three or four colours, beautiful professional design, backgammon points reaching to different places on a globe. We might want to look at changing the text, but essentially I think we have our winner. Great work, Will!

Stricken: I would give the slickwill black 2, his others just 1 (I dont like beige, and blue's message has no apparent connection to the 10th anniversary theme) I would give the black 3 if it had a message with more bite, and fewer board points (8 are visible which is not a backgammon number), amd a more sensible/aesthetic arrangement of the checkers (whats with those pink things?), and what about the folks who log on from Antarctica ;-)

cyan: i just like [Winbladh's] design coz i think its very well done.. very professional. and anniversary part of it could be out or not.. i also like the idea "fibs players' moods". now we have -1 (wouldn't buy), we don't need to say words such as "i didn't like it at all". coz i believe either we like it or not everyone is trying to do something.. so better we concentrate on our own new ideas. i won't vote for my own designs, coz its obvious that i like them:)) Imagine if i vote -1 for my own?? Instead i'd prefer to take it off of choices. Actually i wish "cyan 2" to be taken off. Please remember what JasonJ was saying: "As for the others...Lots of colors...process jobs or somehthing like 8 color jobs... Crazy in terms of cost."

maman_Eve: I like cyan 3 and slick will the best. I guess colour is really important to me. I also like the fact that it says that it is BG and it is online.

coolpaula: I like the Alef Mix 2 image..... but not the orange bit in it or the Thx.GG text. I like the obsessiveness of Winbladh's text and the idea of choice in text plus the simplicity of colour.

BALBOA: Great Stuff...hard to choose! But I go w/SLICKWILL because I think that it best represents what we all do for many hours per week, in a colorful and upbeat manner. Also the Lozenge Design reminds me of the old HEIDE CANDY LOGO.....makers of JUJYFRUITS, CHOCOLATE BABIES and other fine memories from my past!

Winbladh_IIIp: My advice is not to smack the message in the face on people. Let the observer's curiosity lead them past the text to the logo, then let the click in their brain make them feel smart. In this case, the text message combined with the Fibs logotype makes an impression with an attitude. "This is how I feel, and this is the place that makes me feel that way" A dice, a board or something else will not add value. Without it, you have a cool t-shirt branding Fibs, with an illustration you have something else. Maybe just another designed backgammon t-shirt.

Tygger: GregS 3: better on white than grey though, and maybe different coloured points???), GregS 4: better with 3 two-tone points...

alef: I've made a third mix following Tygger's suggestion and simplifying the colours. My thoughts on Winbladh's text design is that it might work well on the back of the shirt (although we're approaching ten and a half years now!). In answer to Spiderwoman, the t-shirt will be ready when we can settle on a design and Jason can print them... I've created a spreadsheet of votes, scoring based on people's comments. And now the images above are in order of winning votes. Thomas is winning, although it'd need to be redone with fewer colours. Send in your votes!

Spiderwoman: If we are supposed to vote for the best designs, here are my votes: "Thomas design" and "Alef Mix". I surely will buy a t-shirt, but latter tell me how it is going to be available to a Brazilian spider :-) I also read something about sizes 4XL, 5XL... Let me defend the interest of the shorties: there should be small t-shirts as well! When are these t-shirts going to be ready?

cyan: Winbladh's t-shirt design is my favorite now.. I'd get one immediately.

Tygger: I didn't like Winbladh's submission at all - the T-shirt needs to be more visual. My favourite is Alef's Mix 2 incorporating some of the features from Cyan 4/Slickwill Mix. I would prefer it without the 'Thx, good game' however. Also, you could include (most of) the words from Thomas' design in between the computers... e.g. First, Friendly, Fun in a circle, punctuated by the computer symbols. I liked both of GregS' submissions too, but I think they would need to include at least a partial board to make the link to Backgammon clear to the lay person.

Winbladh_IIIp: Some people live and breath with Fibs by their side. The design in this matter is really not that important, the only important thing is to catch that special Fibs feeling!

I read some comments about the colors, and I can only say that some people like green just because their sofa is green. So, that's really something the person who made the graphic design of the logo should decide. Or why not produce t-shirts in a couple of different colors and let the buyer decide. The word "FUN" can be switched to "AGONY", "DICE", "BAR" or some other word that better explain other moods of the players at Fibs! In that case, we have a collection that you buy the t-shirt that best show how Fibs has made you feel during the years.

Stricken: Possible catch phrases - "FIBS - Back-Game-On" or "FIBS - Back-Game-On-Line" (with words in different colours). None of the current designs jump out at me. I would suggest that simple backgammon imagery should be prominent on the front, ie either a quadrant of points with a few checkers, or a maybe a full-board (not in too much detail). I think a quadrant of bi-colour points with a few checkers has more resonance than say just using dice or a cube as the major icons. SlickWill design contains the right elements but is too colourful, overly busy and the verticle orientation of the board is not as effective as a true horzontal perspective. cyan3 - not enough board points and absence of checkers may not produce the association between the design and the game to the layperson. Alef mix - the best of the globe themes - perhaps the addition of the Back-Game-On-Line slogan at the bottom in the location of the 'thanks good game' in the Alef mix 2 design.

GregS: Here are 2 ideas for FIBS t-shirts. May be totally off-track, may not! Let me know what you think - I take positive criticism as well as negative!!!

alef: Maybe the shirt needs some kind of catch phrase as well as a design.

Dutchie: three suggestions:
- "Come play backgammon on FIBS - and get the lag for free"
- "FIBS, it keeps you off the street... Oh, and it's got backgammon too."
- "I played at FIBS, and all I got was this T-shirt"

cht: i felt too that cyans design lacks a bit backgammmon in it. but when i look at the backgammonboardcube from thomas i more and more feel like it looks like a basketball :-)) - still slicks remix looks good to me though i would leave it two-coloured and add the logo

burper: What is a CND symbol? Is the peace sign not universal? I like cyan 4 and 1. I think 'lucky' should be turned into "getting lucky", as in "Get lucky on fibs". I think all the designs are nice, although SlickWills' is a slick design it has too many colors, making it expensive. Same comment for thomas', otherwise its' my first choice. 8 colors?

alef: CND is the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, see www.cnduk.org/INFORM~1/symbol.htm. Let's ask jason about the colours...

jasonj: All of cyan's designs are going to be 3 to 4 colors each. To give you an idea - the design "cyan 1" would be white (under everything to get the colors to show up on black) plus red, gold, teal. #2 would be white under everything (except "lucky," which would be a halftone of white) plus gold, teal and... I guess there's black as an outline/shadow for the "FIBS" lettering... I, personally, like #3 the best. Unique design. Nice idea. If it were to be printed at a reasonable price, the bottom of the triangles would not be able to go ALL the way down to the bottom of the shirt... But far enough that they could get tucked in to one's pants, and have the same effect. I'm sold on that one. Cyan's #5 design could be done as a 3 color (4 if you included black). As for the others... Lots of colors... SlickWill's and Thomas' ideas are both process jobs or somehthing like 8 color jobs... Crazy in terms of cost. Cyan's #3... That's my vote.

cht: very nice designs :-) i like cyan 4 best (very nice colours!!) but would like to have the logo a bit bigger. thomas is my second choice. but i buy one whatever design gets chosen :-)

Vince: I like the t-shirt with the globe the best!

mastercard: my choices in order of preference... cyan5/cyan2/cyan4 without CND symbol. I'd like a back print too. Maybe those designs on the back, and just the small FIBS thing on the front

santaclaus: i love [cyan's], but my favorite is slickwills', i would definitely buy that one

David: My favorites, in order #1 cyan 2, #2 thomas design, #3 cyan 4. If any of these are made, I will buy a couple.

cowgirl: I vote for cyan's #1....call me crazy! I also think we should keep the costs down by printing only the front. Will they be ready for the Las Vegas' tournament in November?

maria: I'm partial to cyan's #4 also, but then I'm an aging hippie. :) How about incorporating the peace design onto a picture of planet earth?

alef: Cyan 4 is my favourite so far, I like the turquoise colour and the image of computers in a circle. Although the peace symbol has become too much of a 1960s cliché, perhaps we could use part of Thomas' globe with backgammon points in there instead? Also, I'd like to see both sides of the shirt used. I think Fibsters are willing to pay about $15-$20, would this be enough to cover the extra cost of two sides?

maria: I like [SlickWill's design], it's very colorful. Maybe it can be made a little bit smaller so we can have all 24 points showing? I'd like to see this on a grey t-shirt. Grey is my favorite color next to green. :)

jasonj: I can't give you much of an estimate of costs for the t-shirts until we have determined how many colors it will be (on what color shirt!), and how many t-shirts it will be. The more colors - the more cost; the more sides printed - the more the cost; the more shirts we order - the lower the cost.

alef: SlickWill's is certainly pretty, although I think we need the FIBS logo somewhere. I like Thomas' globe with backgammon points as longitude lines. Perhaps his design needs the colours reworked, I don't think the wood pattern works with an internet site. It is a bit tricky to mix the blue and orange of the new FIBS logo with other colours.

SlickWill: Here's an idea... I'll try to work on another when I have more time to do so... See you around ;]

thomas: here's my t-shirt suggestion: i'm not so good in graphix programs. it shows the world as a (round;-) wooden backgammon board with the triangles as meridians. and a banner saying 10 years. around the globe the words 'first friendly free fun'. there a dice cups and stones separating the words...i don't know what to put on the back...

jasonj: [we'll] make several different sizes, which isn't that big of a deal, except to note that XXL or bigger is more cost.

Road Warrior: I would suggest either the acronym, or FIBS spelled out on the front in small block letters over on the left side and a graphic picture of the board with dice and dice cups or something on the back. Obviously more money, but better looking. Also available in any color than just white.

alef: The old FIBS t-shirt sold out years ago regardless of size. For the new design the new logo should be included, and the old logo as well might be good have on it too. Here's a design I made for the UK party (sure others can do much better for the t-shirt!):
