Welcome to FIBS, the First Internet Backgammon Server

• since 1992, FIBS is your first, fast, fun and free telnet connection to online backgammon.
• play, watch and kibitz with fibsters from all over the world. You'll find beginners, intermediate, advanced and world class players on FIBS at any time of day or night. Over 9000 currently registered players; over 4200 currently rated players.
• no software required. FIBS works with all operating systems. Use the default ASCII format, or one of the free/shareware interfaces available for PC, Mac and Unix.

If you've never played on FIBS before

• read the brief Guide for New Players, and
• take a look at the FIBS commands and
• jump in! Telnet to fibs.com 4321. Log on as "guest", choose your FIBSname and password, and type "help beginner" to get started.

FIBS without ascii X's and O's

• isn't the same :) but shareware and freeware graphical interfaces are available for FIBS for PC, Mac and Unix operating systems.

Tournaments

• davide's Spring Tournament is nearing the final rounds. Register now for davide's Summer Blitz and texan's $MONEY$ tournament. Wisler's Peace Cup doubles tourney is in progress. "bibi III" is coming in September. Details on the FIBS Tournament Page.

Team matches

• Team Denmark was the winner by the narrowest of margins in a seven-team round robin tournament Spring '97. Sixteen teams from Europe, the USA, Japan, Australia and South Africa are now engaged in friendly (but fierce) competition. A second formal tournament will begin Fall 1997.

• McCool's Fibs Photo Files has lots of pictures of fibsters and links to other photo sites.

Better backgammon: the blot you save may be your own

• Stephen Turner's WWW Backgammon Page is *the* WWW backgammon resource. Choose the location nearest you: Home Site (UK), USA, Greece, Portugal, South Africa, Russia, UK.
• Tom Keith's Backgammon Galore is another great site, and includes a complete, illustrated explanation of the rules of backgammon, and a glossary of backgammon terminology.
• Read the backgammon newsgroup rec.games.backgammon, and the rec.games.backgammon FAQ on the WWW Backgammon Page.
• Use a match record and replay program to study and play through your own FIBS matches.

The First Internet Backgammon Server has been on the net since July 19, 1992. Originally at a site in Germany, FIBS moved to Sweden on December 3, 1993 and to California on June 16, 1996. Since April 7, 1997 FIBS is hosted by Concentric Network Corporation in Cupertino, California.
